Cosfest 2011 Photo Pimps

As so the long awaited Cosfest 2011 closed their curtains last weekend. I had some personal matters to attend to and could only attend the very last 3 hours of it.

Anyway, I tried my best to capture as much photographic chronicles as I can to share with you guys but the event was too crowded and yours truly was too fatigued to do a better job. So yeah, prepare for lousy photos =x

I know I’m gonna sound like such a b*tch for ranting about this and no I’m not trying to imply that, just because I know some of the cosplayers on a personal basis I can ‘own’ their photo exclusivity.

I’m talking about annoying photographers who RUN to join in the photo snapping after YOURS TRULY did the task of requesting cosplayers to pose for me. I’m not even angry about sharing the camera attention with other photographers. I’m just upset because they crowd BEHIND/ AROUND me and whenever I attempt to take a step backwards to capture the cosplayers in their entirety, I can’t!!!!!

FRUSTRATING! Please tell me this is not unique to Singapore!

And so this marks the end of my Cosfest entry! Hope you enjoyed it! leave me a comment to tell me how much you HATE photographer walls.

Costume Interview: JiaGold Bustamante (Xenosaga)

Finally this is out! I’ve actually finished editing this video slightly before I finished editing Gin’s Bad Apple video. But I held off publishing it so as not to clash with the other event reports and partly also because i forgot to upload + was too lazy.

But anyway, it is finally here!! My costume interview with the very beautiful Kos-Mos cosplayer from Philippine who was also one of the winner of the “Asia Cosplay Meet” along with Frankie at Cosfest 2010.

I only met her at the dome after the sun had went down. As the dome was really dark by then, it further illuminated(pun intended)  her LED lights clad costume.

With evilneo’s suggestion, I went up timidly to ask for an interview. And was gladly surprised she obliged! *hearts*

 

In case you didn’t watch the video, Jia Gold’s Kos-Mos costume cost her around SGD 240 and has more than 60 LED lights on it! And those lights had to be turned on manually, one-by-one.

 

 

I was definitely impressed by her costume and she was especially a sight to behold in the dimly lighted dome. I was also very blown away by her toy gun arm prop! Was really marveled by the intricate and realistic details and found it hard to believe any cosplayer can go so far for it.

Jia Gold later reveals that it was actually recycled from her brother’s old toy which was 12 years old! You see, this is the reason why it pays to be  a Garang Guni!

She also demonstrated how one needs to think out of the box when creating a costume that cannot possibly exist in this world. Remember people, anything can be part of a costume prop! Think!!

Jia Gold came across as a very easy to talk to and down-to-earth person.  The photo to the right is her on Cosfest day1. She had actually approcahed Yuanie and myself (Kagamine Rin & Len) and asked for a photo too. Was definitely kinda cool to be  approached by such a pretty lady (OMG THIS SOUNDS SO WRONG WTF AM I SAYING AHAHAHA?!?!)

And interviewing her was such a pleasure. My only regret was not having better shots of her, not having better questions and not having a more conducive interview environment. 

As you could tell, it was really dark at the event hall, so I was using my own flash light to illuminate her. I’m sure the light was very uncomfortable (trust me, I blind myself every time I use it-_-). But she did a good job not letting it affect her.

Many many thanks to Jia Gold for accepting my impromptu interview request and I sincerely hope she enjoyed her experience in Singapore =)

P/s: Any Philippine readers knows if she has any online account or gallery? Would really like to let her see this entry as a way of expressing my appreciation ^^

p/p/s: I’m really regretting not printing out some TCC Business card to distribute. Maybe I should do that for the next event!

Cosfest 2010, Day 2: Photo Pimps 2 !!

Anyone who needs introduction of the Anime Title needs to be slapped. Lols.
I really like how despite the simplicity of the costumes (except Gaara), they still look so put together and eye catching!

There was a pretty cool private studio set up behind the event hall. The female photographer even went as far as running towards Noshuu (Cloth Road) to invite her to the studio haha =)

While I am very impressed with the photographer’s equipment and enthusiasms, I do have my share of doubts.  I wonder if they will bother to send the cosplayers the photos they took. I know I might sound cynical but…. let’s just say I’ve experienced and heard my fair share of event photographers (meaning phototgraphers I don’t personally know but met at the events casually) who promised to send you photographers, took down your email and then you never heard from him again. Oh Wells.

Any awesome cosplayers who was snapped by them got sent your photos ?

 

There was some left over Wedding banquet tables behind the event hall too and as you can see, it’s pretty much Cosplayers parking grounds xD

I must say I kinda like the idea of the tables  even though it is not deliberate and prolly hogs up space =D. Honestly, who is with me that you would dearly like a space somewhere near the event hall for you to rest your tired legs, dump your bags (though no security sorry) or do your makeup/costume touchups?

Maybe this is a small logistic arrangement SCC can look into adding next year :D??  Comment and let the organisers hear your voice!

I was so excited when I spotted him , I pranced over. Though I was confused for a moment when I saw him hanging out with some Naruto Cosplayers xD

And this picture is perfect until you spot the pair of sexy legs behind him XD The cute vanille from pics above was helping him to hold his wings up. Very cutes xD

EDIT: Thanks to Lili  for pointing out, Hoshi and Yuanie are cosplaying as characters from Muramasa Demon Blade. Yuanyuan was doing Kisuke and Hoshi was Momohime

I was lucky another DSLR holding photographer snapped his shutter almost the same time as him and thus resulted in this nicely lighted up photo. Might you it was already evening there and my PnS camera was starting to fail in low light conditions.

A pity Yuanie’s awesome paper mache Skullheads were kinda hidden here.

The rest of the photographs taken were like this T_T Dark and blurry. 

Something alarming to share though, was how someone actually took off with a part of Hoshi’s costume =_=. Yes you heard me right, Hoshi’s Obi dropped without her realising and some random guy TOOK IT . And how do I know it’s a guy? Noshuu and I SAW IT WITH OUR OWN EYES!

Sadly, we weren’t communicating with Yuanie and Hoshi that day (before this photo) and had thought that random guy was their personal friend thus helping Hoshi with her Obi. *palms forehead* I’m not sure what that guy did with the Obi but this incident has brought my attention to another logistic improvement for Cosplay Event organisers; a Lost-and-Found corner.

There are forever a tonne of left behind stuffs at events, especially Cosplay events where the attendees mostly lugs spilling bagages. Having an obvious and official Lost-And-Found corner would make life easier for everyone. Both to the one who dropped the stuff and the one who found it. And why do I say that?

Well most people who ‘picked’ up someone else’s lost item is usually not a thef.  Most take it because they believe if they don’t take it, someone else will. Mayyyyyybe a Lost-and-Found corner would help un-justify that reason? :D

She was cosplaying as the blonde guy from hakuouki the day before and on the second day, she morphed into a bishoujo! Alas! This is the power of cosplay!!!
